Benefits of Avocado and Kiwi Face Mask

This recipe is very simple; you only need four ingredients! Applying this face mask will help your daily skin care products work better by getting rid of the dead skin cells. These dead skin cells can be stubborn at times, piling up on our skin to act as a hindrance for good stuff to enter our skin.

Apart from the function mentioned above, the ingredients in this mask have so much to offer our skin. I have made this mask many times now, and here are the reasons:

Exfoliators available in the market conventionally tend to use microbeads — manufactured solid plastic >1mm in their largest dimension. Several countries, including the USA, Canda, and the UK, have ordered a full ban on the production and sale of microbeads in cosmetics because these are just bad news.

Microbeads can cause water pollution and pose a severe threat to the environment of aquatic animals in freshwater and ocean water.

With kiwi, you get seeds that act as a natural gentle exfoliator. Not only is this good for our skin, but it is also good for the environment! They help the skin shed dead skin cells and unclog pores. When discarded, they decay naturally, causing no environmental threat.

Not only does kiwi purifies the skin, but it also protects the skin from the damaging effect of free radicals. Kiwi is rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, making it quite useful in keeping the wrinkles at bay.

Avocado is one of my favorite ingredients in smoothies, dips, desserts, and face masks. It is versatile and calming when applied to the skin. Thanks to its abundance in mono-saturated fats, avocado improves skin tone, moisturizes, and nourishes the skin. Avocado can help reduce skin redness and itching, which makes it perfect for dry skin

It is also rich in vitamins E and C, which are involved in the creation of elastin and collagen. The latter are tremendously important for maintaining your skin's elasticity and firmness.

The percentage of citric acid in lime is in a desirable amount for it to be high in efficacy and low in irritation. Citric acid is responsible for lime's ability to aid in sloughing off dead skin cells and speed up new cell turnover. Because of this, lime can help lighten age spots and even out uneven skin tone.

It is also beneficial for oily skin as it removes the excess oil from the pores. And since the citric acid content in lime is low compared to lemon, irritation from using lime is lower compared to using lemon.

Jojoba oil

Jojoba oil is full of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E. It delivers a high number of ceramides, which help regulate the hydration of skin cells. It resembles the natural oils or sebum your body produces and works to seal your skin with a protective barrier, to keep it from losing moisture. Find out more about jojoba here.

How to Apply a Face Mask?

With all face masks, you should be prepared to make a mess. Starting from making, applying, and rinsing — face masks can be a bit messy.

So, if you don't have time for a bath, pull back your hair in a ponytail. If you have baby hairs or short bangs, you can also use a hairband to keep them in place and out of the mask's way.

Start with cleansing your face thoroughly. Remove all of the excess sebum, makeup, sunscreen, and dirt before you apply your mask. Doing this will help ensure that your skin drinks up all the goodness from the face mask.

Never rub the mask directly into your skin. Treat it as though you are painting your face. Be sure to avoid the eye area.

Be patient and give the mask enough time to work. You can use 15 minutes to relax. But be conscientious of the time and do not fall asleep -- especially if you are going to use clay masks.

Rinse and remove the mask gently. You don't want to be too rough when washing your face. Use plenty of water and a flannel to wash off the mask gently.

When using the DIY avocado and kiwi mask, you can gently rub your face for a little exfoliation before completely removing the mask. Pat dry and follow up with a moisturizer.

Anti-Aging Avocado and Kiwi Face Mask

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1/4 juice from lime (2-3 tsp)
  • 2-3 tsp jojoba oil

Note: You can replace the jojoba oil with olive oil, avocado oil, or any other carrier oil of your choice.

How To Prepare and Use It?
  1. In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients. Use a fork to mash the avocado and the kiwi.
  2. Cleanse your face thoroughly. Apply a warm wet towel onto your face and keep it on for 2-3 minutes. Doing this will open your pores and help your skin drink up the goodness of the avocado and kiwi face mask.
  3. Use your fingers or a face mask brush to apply the mask.
  4. Relax for 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. Pat dry gently.
  5. Follow up with your favorite serum and moisturizer.
