Why An Overnight Hair Mask?
Hair masks are packed with all the beneficial ingredients for the condition being addressed. Usually, we use hair masks before showering. We let the mixture nurture our hair and scalp for as long as possible before our shower ends. Then, we rinse everything off and down the drain goes all those beneficial ingredients.
That’s fine and all, chiefly since some recipes are really meant for short contact therapy. But, with overnight hair masks, we can take the soothing, moisturizing ingredients and let them work for our hair and scalp for a more extended period than our shower time.
With this extended period, our hair and scalp can benefit a lot more from the ingredients we’ll put in our hair mask. And so, we only want the best for our hair and scalp – ingredients that will make the hair soft and smooth and relieve the scalp of dandruff.
What’s In It?
So what are we going to pump into our overnight hair mask? Here are the beneficial ingredients below and what makes them so great for our hair and scalp, especially for dandruff.
Organic Agave or Maple Syrup
When choosing our first ingredient, what syrup to use is a matter of accessibility. Since when it comes to the benefits they offer, both agave and maple syrup have a lot to offer!
Both syrups have tons of vitamins and minerals that can help moisturize the scalp and keep dandruff at bay. Plus, the antioxidants in both agave syrup and maple syrup can condition the hair and scalp beautifully!
Apart from being easy to acquire, bananas are capable of making our hair much less prone to frizz. This is because of a mineral in bananas called silica that makes hair stronger and thicker.
In addition to all that good stuff for our hair, bananas also have antimicrobial properties. Meaning, bananas help in healing a dry and flaky scalp. Just right for our needs!
If you’ll recall from a previous post on essential oils and dandruff, eucalyptus oil is a great option for recipes. Noted for its pain-relieving qualities, eucalyptus oil (E. globulus) can provide relief to itchy, painful skin rashes by providing moisture. According to a study, eucalyptus does this by increasing the level of ceramides in human skin, improving the water-holding and barrier functions. With better-moisturized scalp comes faster healing!
